SCHOOL PROCEDURES

To minimise interruptions to student learning parents are reminded that if they need to give a message to their child, or drop off lunch or books or anything else to their child they should come to the office first. The child will be called to come and get the message etc.

Parents are also reminded that if they are called to pick up a sick child or take a child home early they MUST come to the office and sign the child out of the school.

Parents/guardians must not go to the classroom during school hours without signing at the office first.

School begins at 9am so please endeavour to have your child at school before this time. Children who are late disrupt the class and miss important information. Latecomers must report to the office before going to the classroom.

EVERY DAY COUNTS

It is very important that students attend school every day.

There is no safe number of days for missing school- each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

If you’re having attendance issues with your child, please let your classroom teacher know so we can work together to get your child to school every day.

It is important that children have a good pattern of attending school every day, even in the early. We are going to start showing the attendance rate of each grade for the month in our newsletters. We are aiming for 95-100% attendance.

9309 7626 is the number to ring if your child is away.

CHANGES TO EDUCATION MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE

The final payment for the 2014 EMA was made in August 2014.

From 1 January 2015, the government will provide extra financial support directly to Victoria’s neediest schools instead of providing the Education Maintenance Allowance directly to parents.

Parents will not be able to apply for the Education Maintenance Allowance in 2015.

The money will be allocated to eligible schools through schools’ core operational funding mechanism, with the neediest schools receiving the most funding. Not all schools will be receiving funding in 2015.

This change to how the money is distributed was required by the funding agreement with Commonwealth government to make sure Victorian schools receive increased funding that will benefit all students and, in particular, those from schools with concentrated disadvantage.

The majority of parents who received the EMA payment already elected to provide the money directly to their school.

Bethal Primary will allocate $150 per student to families whose Health Care / Pension Card is valid from the 29/01/2015. These funds will cover the school book pack and remaining funds can be used against uniform, excursions, etc. Unused funds will not roll over into the following year and will be absorbed in the total school funding.

The charge to families who do not hold a Health Care / Pension card will remain the same in 2015 at $80. This amount covers all consumable materials used in the classroom & specialist classes and contributes to the upkeep of computers and sporting equipment etc. These families will also pay full cost for camps, excursions & swimming.
